Venice

There are many places in Venice where you can relax and meet friends.

It is worth taking a break and having a drink in one of the cafés on the Plaza de San Marcos, like el Quadri or la Fenice, which are full of history thanks to the illustrious guests who visited these places, amongst others Goldoni, Lord Byron, D’Annunzio, Modigliani, Proust, Dickens. What is most striking in these cafés, as in most Venetian hotels, is the interior decoration in typical Venetian style.

Amateurs of opera and ballet should see the operas performed at the theatre La Fenice.

To enjoy an authentic “Venetian taste” try the informal “bacari”, the oldest Venetian  “wine bars” where they sell traditional  “cicchetti”, which are like Spanish tapas.

Other informal places, which are not so aimed at tourists but more at a local clientele, can be found in the area of la Fondamenta della Misericordia, or in the area of the Ghetto and Campo Santa Margherita where students and artists meet. 

Aperitifs and bars

Conca D’Oro o Basiliquito

There you can enjoy a good pizza, either in the traditional style, or “al metro”; it means that you choose the length in centimetres, depending on how hungry you are. From 6pm till 9pm they serve tapas and cocktails. Their speciality is the basiliquito.

Aurora
Address: Plaza de San Marcos, 49, Venice
Every Sunday at 6.30pm, they have the “Aurora Art Aperitive” where contemporary Venetian and foreign artists exhibit their work, thus creating a very cosy artistic corner in this Venetian café.

Muro Vino e Cucina
Address: Campo Bella Vienna, en el mercado de Rialto en San Polo 222.
The restaurant combines traditional with designer dining. For a quick bite, you can choose “cicchetti”, but if you have more time, the restaurant has a good fish menu, vegetables and salads. Bar y Restaurante Central

This new restaurant is open until late at night and the highlight of its menu is the typical Venetian cuisine. Thoughtful decoration, music chill out and lounge create a romantic atmosphere, unique in Venice.
